| This section contains various photos of...well..."funny" stuff. This may include the hilarious, wacky, pointless, peculiar and even the out-of-the-ordinary. More pictures will be added over time. I will eventually be asking others to "Show me the funny!" First though, let me get a few more of my own up. Pictures will be posted with the oldest first due to how the captions are made up. I will post a link for recent photos when the number of images surpasses this page. Click on any picture to enlarge. | ||||||||||||||||||

| This situation is totally messed up. I was in one of our local North Carolina towns on business a few weeks ago when I first saw this port-a-john with such a mismatched company name. One phrase..."There is NO SUCH THING." Who in their right mind would ever use such a name, especially for portable bathroom rentals? It's all stink here...LITERALLY. The phone number has been removed for company privacy. Submitted by M.L. Devall -- Raleigh-Durham, NC (USA); September 25, 2006 |

| I believe someone is trying to tell us something, eh? A number of stop signs between Franklinton and Creedmoor in North Carolina have been vandalized in this fashion. I'm usually not one to get too involved with politics, but I do know that expressing oneself in this manner is idiotic...not to mention it doesn't fair well with the NCDOT. President Bush may cause various "issues," but so do many others in different points of view. Submitted by M.L. Devall -- Raleigh-Durham, NC (USA); September 27, 2006 |

| There are some tall trees around here, aren't there? Taken during overcast conditions, this photo makes the feature less noticeable. The tall looking tree in the middle is actually a NEXTEL cellular phone tower camouflaged to blend in with its surroundings. It would mix in better if it was a bit shorter. This tower is located in the Wakefield area of Raleigh, North Carolina. It was made to look like a tree so as not to stand out as much. Submitted by M.L. A cinder block wall inside of a tree? Go figure. It would make for an interesting concept if the angles were straight. This is actually an elaborate way to cover a gaping hole within the tree caused when a secondary trunk and branches broke off during Hurricane Isabel in 2003. The remedy happened recently in Franklinton, North Carolina. Damage in the Raleigh-Durham area was not as extensive as during Hurricane Fran back in 1996. Submitted by M.L. | Who would have thought one could travel in three major directions at once? That's only in theory, actually. Shown here is one of many wrong-way concurrencies throughout the United States, but a route carrying six highways such as these in Greensboro, North Carolina is fairly uncommon. There are none which include all four major directions at the same time. A double set of opposites in Wytheville, Virginia can be seen here. Submitted by M.L. | An interesting way of giving directons, by names of various writers. Seen here by three signs for the author Edgar Allan Poe, each part of the name gives mileage from Charlotte, North Carolina to various places throughout the United States and the world. This is one of many located in a courtyard square called "The Green" across the street from the Charlotte Convention Center. A set of signs for Herman Melville can be seen here. Submitted by M.L. | Here's an interesting feature...a cemetery in front of a house, next to a state highway at that. Normally, one would find private family cemeteries either off to the side or a ways behind the residence. Usually, these aren't quite adjacent as this one. In the case shown here, it doesn't leave much of a front yard between the house and highway. A good thing though, less grass to mow. The image was taken near Castalia, North Carolina. | Yes...this is an actual name of a municipal road, located in a southeastern Virginia city. In all seriousness, whoever allowed that to happen should have their heads examined. I'm sure this isn't the only one like this. I know of a few "Gaylord" roads and streets, which are most likely taken from the family surname. A "Gay's Row" is kind of overdoing it though. By the way, the one shown here is near the downtown area. An odd world. Submitted by M.L. Devall -- Raleigh-Durham, NC (USA); July 30, 2007 |
